I'd like to add my vote to this with more detail / use case.

I use another extension for FF called FFNetParser .
It can do all sorts of searching and filtering, but the key features I'd like to see implemented for AO3 are hiding and highlighting.

I can create custom labels / actions I can assign to an individual story. These include to hide or not, highlight and choose a color, and a custom icon. At the top of the story search there is a line that says how may stories are hidden and a link to show them.

The main ones I have created are read, reading and bad / hide.

Hide the ones I've already read
Highlight the ones I'm currently reading
Hide the ones I do not want to read and highlight a different color for when I show hidden stories.
